12 avril 2016 ~ 0 commentaire cloud cloud how to use google drive/docs to collaborate on a document? after combining our 3 parts together, we got our final guide book in french for creating a google account, accessing google drive and developing a google form. since i’m not a english speaker, neither a french speaker, my partners had gave me the most easy part to translate. in their parts, google drive and google form, there were more texts, furthermore, these texts were more specialized than that in my part. so after finishing my part, i tried to understand and take important notes of their parts. this semester, i have a new course named « traduction informatique », we have translated several about computer science and learned plenty of specialized words in this domain. in their parts, i saw same familiar expressions such as « storage » « cloud » and « web browser » which we had learned from the technical translation. here, the interesting term « cloud » came out again! nearly in all the texts that we had translated in that course, i could see this word for thousand times! that’s not possible!! lol but really, a high frequency! for its translation, we keep directly the english word « cloud », even in the noun phrase. for example: we keep all the noun phrase in english like »cloud computing » or there are some expression like « cloud storage », we translate only « storage » but still keep « cloud » (stockage en cloud). ok, actually, we need to digest the information from all the courses, the acknowledge and the methods are not only used for one domain. 11 avril 2016 ~ 0 commentaire title how to use google drive/docs to collaborate on a document? what is the importance of the title? « a good title makes all the difference in the world. it can be the difference between having your post widely read and shared across the internet and only getting a small amount of traction. the main purpose of a title is to garner attention and entice people to start reading your post. this is why the words that you use and how your craft your title is vital to the success of your post. » said nolan wilson, technical writer in content development and social media and article. but! translating the title may be more difficult than just creating a title. at first, we should keep the meaning of the original text, and then, we should also respect and serve the reading and writing habits in target langue. that’s way we should adjust the structure and the collocations. as showing in the following pictures, we changed all the present participle of the verbs « create » « access » and « develop » into the infinitive form « créer“ ”accéder“ and ”réaliser ». besides, we found that the symbol & in the title of english version. this little stuff named ampersand, representing the conjunction word « and ». it originated as a ligature of the letters et , latin for « and ». in french, we don’t use that symbol. so we change it into the equivalent word « et » in addition, we added a “comment” at the beginning of the whole title to make it more comprehensive in the sense. here we pointed out « how », how to create, how to access and how to develop the google stuffs. our final title turned out!! comment créer un compte google, accéder à google drive et réaliser une enquête avec google forms. 09 avril 2016 ~ 0 commentaire terms and conditions how to use google drive/docs to collaborate on a document? at the end of my part, we found a big difference between the english version and the french version. as the following pictures show, we could easily capture the difference. in english version, the seventh step about the terms and conditions is just a short sentence with two hyperlinks of « terms of service » and « privacy policy » at the bottom of the registration page. however, in the french version, we found that there was no more following steps after the seventh step. but when we click next stop to continue, there appeared a new page with the same content but more precise as shown in the picture above. therefore, we changed the order of the seventh step and the eighth step. besides, i found another little thing interesting! the english version i said here was the original text which our u.c.f partners gave us. in fact, when i tried my self to create a new account using the english version of google, i found that it was the same situation as the french version. « what?!!!! » o_o what on earth is the reason for this phenomenon? actually, it was the option of « location » that made such a difference. this option is normally automatic. if we keep the location as « france », even if we change the language, we just change the display language in english. if we change the location as « united states » or « united kingdom », the little sentence will appear! magic time now ! lol 07 avril 2016 ~ 0 commentaire full stop how to use google drive/docs to collaborate on a document? as regards the full stop in the english version, we found that this punctuation was used at the end of all the sentences both in the instructions and the notes. at first, i didn’t pay attention to that, and i had never think about that a little punctuation might cause problems later on. but it really happened!! however, ana told me that in french, we don’t use a full stop at the end of a note after checking my translation. so we removed all the full stop in the notes. in addition, as for the translation of « note », i had found an equivalent with lots of concurrences in the english-french dictionary « linguee » which is « petit mot ». she also told me this translation is inappropriate here. when we want to leave a message for someone, we should write a few sentences on a note. it was these sentences that we called them « petit mot ». usually, this expression is used in common usage. so here, apparently, we should change an expression more formal. during the searching, i found that « remarque » was used in lots of articles and the instructions in french. 04 avril 2016 ~ 0 commentaire text box how to use google drive/docs to collaborate on a document? my boyfriend had a interview today… ok, that is none of business of my project….aha :)let’s get down to the business ! today, we are going to talk about these yellow text boxes. actually, in the original text in english, these text boxes with yellow border, in fact, are composed of two parts, one is the text, the other is the yellow text-box. at first, i only replace the text in french, but later, when we checked my translation in the linux system, they turned into a mess, just like the picture below. therefore, i came up with two solutions: 1. replacing as well the text and then, combine the text-box and the text together, move the text box with yellow border to the bot
